Prior to Race 1 the stipendiary steward, Mr Ching, requested a ruling as to whether the horses WILLOW WOOD in Race 7 and BIZZ in race 8 should be permitted to race without blinkers.

Prior to Race 1 the stipendiary steward, Mr Ching, requested a ruling as to whether the horses WILLOW WOOD in Race 7 and BIZZ in race 8 should be permitted to race without blinkers.
--Mr Pitman, trainer of the horses concerned, requested permission from the stipendiary steward to this effect. Rule 868(3)(a) and (4) provides that the stipendiary steward can only give his permission if the request is before the closing of acceptances. However, the two horses raced yesterday and the acceptances closed before this time. It was difficult, if not impossible, therefore, to obtain permission earlier due to the fact that acceptances were on Tuesday.
--Both horses performed disappointingly and Mr Pitman accordingly asked for permission that the blinkers be removed. Mr Ching stated that he had no objection to this and emphasised the unusual circumstances of having racing on two consecutive days.
--The horses are not racing until later in the day in races 7 and 8, and we are assured that the TAB will be notified and announcements made on course and on Trackside and radio. Because of the unusual nature of the circumstances we permit the horses to race without blinkers.
