Hearing Type (Code):

Meet Title:
Wyndham HRC - 19 November 2006
Race Date:
2006/11/19
Race Number:
Race 8
Decision: --
Stipendiary Steward, Mr P Knowles, filed a protest alleging that over the final 250m STONEY CREEK (S Walkinshaw) shifted outwards forcing BOLD CRUISER (A Beck) over extra ground.
--
DECISION & REASONS:
--Stipendiary Steward, Mr P Knowles, filed a protest alleging that over the final 250m STONEY CREEK (S Walkinshaw) shifted outwards forcing BOLD CRUISER (A Beck) over extra ground.
--Mr Knowles presented his evidence using both front and side-on video films, pointing out the outward movement of STONEY CREEK. This movement becoming more exaggerated the further the horses went along the home straight. Mr Knowles estimated this to be approximately 3 to 3-1/2 cart widths wide.
--Mr Beck and Mr Adams made similar comments, emphasising the fact that BOLD CRUISER could not run in a straight line and was forced to cover considerable extra ground.
--Mr Walkinshaw admitted that this outward movement occurred but he did his best to keep his horse straight and that in his opinion Mr Beck did not have to stop driving his horse.
--Mr Allison and Mr Knowles both highlighted the outward movement of STONEY CREEK, No.11, again emphasising the fact that BOLD CRUISER was forced over extra ground.
--Decision:
--The panel decided to uphold the protest and to amend the placings of the first and second horses. The amended placings now to read ?
--1st - No. 8
--2nd - No.11
--3rd - No.10
--4th - No. 3
--5th - No. 9
--Reasons:
--- --
- STONEY CREEK, No.11, interfered with BOLD CRUISER, No.8, by taking its line in the straight. The outward movement being approximately 3 cart widths. --
- The committee felt that driver, Mr Walkinshaw, did not make significant effort to straighten his horse. --
- As the margin was only half a head at the finish, the committee felt that this distance was far less than the extra distance that BOLD CRUISER was required to run, because of STONEY Creek's movement outward during the run home.
