Mr. S. Doyle admitted a breach of rule 330 (3) (c) in that he failed to make the weight for ‘The Inkeeper’. Rule 330 (3) (c) reads: “A rider shall not fail to ride a horse at the weight at which it is handicapped to carry”.
Mr. Goodwin informed the committee that upon arriving on course Mr. Doyle informed him he was unable to make the weight on ‘The Inkeeper’. Mr. Doyle acknowledged he understood the rule.

Mr. Goodwin had little to add except to point out that this was Mr. Doyle’s third breach of this rule this year. The previous two had been handled by way of a fine and he asked for a monetary penalty of $300.00.
Mr. Doyle stated that he took the ride at 54 kilos believing he could make the weight. The long trip from New Plymouth meant he didn’t have enough time for a sauna.

In coming to a decision to impose a fine for this breach Mr. Doyle’s admittance of the breach was acknowledged. However, it was pointed out to him this was his third breach of the rule since January 2014 and he must endeavour to take rides at which he is comfortable at meeting his obligations.
