--Stipendiary Steward Mr S Ching, alleged that Mrs J Lawson was contracted to ride BARNEY O at 54.5kg and was unable to fulfil this contract being 1 kilogram over.
--Mrs Lawson admitted the offence.
--The background is the connections approached the Stipendiary Steward and the Stipendiary Steward said the policy of Racing New Zealand was that overweight riders must be replaced if at all possible and charged under Rule 520(4)(c). Miss J Cameron was contracted to replace Mrs Lawson.
--Mrs Lawson said she had ridden at the Timaru trials the day before and stayed in Timaru overnight, travelling to Winton by car that morning. She had made several attempts to have a sauna but due to her travel commitments had been unable to have one. She would normally lose 1 to 1-1/2 kgs with a sauna.
--Mrs Lawson has a clear record under this offence in the past 12 months.
--Submissions as to penalty were heard. Mr Ching asked for a fine and Mrs Lawson concurred.
--Taking into account her ready admission of the charge and her clear record Mrs Lawson was fined $150.
