Decision: Following the running of Race 7 Mr Ching, Stipendiary Steward, laid an information alleging that Ms Cameron the rider of GREEN CHEQUERS failed to ride her mount out fully to the finish

DECISION, REASON & PENALTY

--

--

--

Following the running of Race 7 Mr Ching, stipendiary steward, laid an information alleging that Ms Cameron the rider of GREEN CHEQUERS failed to ride her mount out fully to the finish when it had a reasonable chance of running into 5th place.

--

--

Mr Ching with the assistance of Mr Davidson demonstrated on the videos that Ms Cameron stood up on her mount GREEN CHEQUERS some twelve strides from the finish, allowing SHIRAZ to pass her and take 5th place by a neck.

--

Mr Ching said that he was being generous when stating it was twelve strides from the finish.

--

--

Ms Cameron told the committee that she had felt that her mount ? was  ?well gone? early in the straight and had struggled with the conditions from that time? and that her mount was making strange breathing sounds, a whistling, and she  ?wouldn?t do anything different? under the same circumstances.

--

Ms Cameron was aware she wasn?t going to run a place for 1st, 2nd or 3rd and had mentioned to the trainer the breathing difficulties as soon as she dismounted from the horse.

--

But she failed to inform Mr Ching until he questioned her about her ride.

--

--

Mr Ching stated that Ms Cameron had a duty to ride her mount with vigour to return a stake of $ 250 to the connections.

--

He also informed the committee that Ms Cameron was warned under this rule at the previous meeting at Wingatui.

--

--

Ms Cameron you have admitted the breach of rule 866(1)(c) and agree that you failed to ride out GREEN CHEQUERS costing the 5th placing.

--

We have taken into account your evidence of a concern for the horse's breathing and the track conditions, your exemplary record and ready admission to the breach of this rule.

--

--

This is a serious breach of the rules and your actions have cost the connections a sum of $ 250. Fortunately it was for 5th and at no cost to the betting public.

--

--

We accept you were genuinely concerned for the horse's safety.

--

--

Therefore we impose a fine of $250 and remind you of your obligations under the Rules of Racing.
