An information was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr J. Muirhead under rule 507a in that horseman P. Jeffries was not available to take his engagement on Village Romance.

An information was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr J. Muirhead under rule 507a in that horseman P. Jeffries was not available to take his engagement on Village Romance. Village Romance as a result was a late scratching.
--Mr P. Jeffries did not admit the breach of this rule and was present at the hearing.
--Mr J. Muirhead stated he was informed only seconds prior to the start of the race that the horse Village Romance had no driver; the horse had not been warmed up prior to the race. The horse was declared a late scratching.
--Mr J. Muirhead informed the committee that Village Romance’s Trainer, Mr Briskie sent Junior Horseman D. Branch to look for his driver prior to race 2, but was unable to find him. Neither Trainer or Junior Horseman informed the Stipendiary Steward of the missing driver.
--Mr P. Jeffries in his evidence stated he relied upon the Waikato Times to provide him the field details but the information was incorrectly printed and misled him to believe the horse was starting in a later race.
--Penalty
--Mr Muirhead recommended a fine of between $100-$200.
--Mr P. Jeffries was advised by the Chairman to use the HRNZ website in future and not rely on the Waikato Times as this is not the official source for acceptances.
--In this instance a $100 fine was imposed.
