Following the running of Race 7 an information was laid under Rule 871 (3) alleging Mr Norvall being the rider of the winner of Race 7, MARTINI RED, made a celebratory gesture prior to his horse passing the winning post.

Following the running of Race 7 an information was laid under Rule 871 (3) alleging Mr Norvall being the rider of the winner of Race 7, MARTINI RED, made a celebratory gesture prior to his horse passing the winning post.
--Mr J Oatham, Stipendiary Steward, demonstrated on the video that two strides prior to the winning post Mr Norvall flourished his whip in a celebratory gesture.
--Mr Norvall admitted the breach but thought he was on the line. On viewing the film Mr Norvall accepted that in fact he was two strides short of the winning post.
--Mr Norvall submitted that this was the first occasion that he had a charge under this rule.
--Mr Coles, Stipendary Steward, in summing up asked that the panel take into consideration Mr Norvall's admission of the breach but note that this was a listed race and that a fine of $300 would be appropriate.
--The decision of the Judicial Panel was that a fine of $300 be imposed.
