Following Race 5 an Information was filed pursuant to Rule 530 (2) (B). The Informant, Mr J Oatham alleged that Mr C Parish, rider of SKANDEL, was guilty of excessive use of the whip in that he struck his mount approximately 20 times between the 500 metre and 200 metre marks. This was clearly outside the guidelines allowed under the whip rule.

Following Race 5 an Information was filed pursuant to Rule 530 (2) (B). The Informant, Mr J Oatham alleged that Mr C Parish, rider of SKANDEL, was guilty of excessive use of the whip in that he struck his mount approximately 20 times between the 500 metre and 200 metre marks. This was clearly outside the guidelines allowed under the whip rule.
--Mr Parish pleaded guilty and had nothing to say.
--The Committee viewed the video films which clearly showed the alleged charge was correct.
--PENALTY SUBMISSIONS:
--Mr Oatham said Mr Parish had incurred a charge under this rule approximately 12 months ago. He submitted a fine of $300 - $400 was appropriate but the stewards would not be lenient with Mr Parish under this rule in the near future.
--PENALTY:
--The Committee carefully considered all submissions and reminded Mr Parish of his obligations under the whip rule.
--Accordingly we impose a fine of $350
