Mr T Harris admitted a charge under Rule 520 (4) (c) after he presented himself to ride 3/4 kilograms over the allotted weight of 54.5 kg for EASY ON THE EYE in the Bank of New Zealand Flyer Premier Handicap.
--Mr Harris was assisted at the hearing by his employer Mr M Walker.
--Having found the breach proved the Committee was advised by Mr C George, Chief Stipendiary Steward, that this was the fifth time in 2007 that Mr Harris had breached this rule and that in his view a fine in the order of $300 - $400 was called for.
--Mr Harris responded by referring to the unsettling effects of a recent suspension on his weight management. Mr Walker indicated that he would be talking to Mr Harris' manager to ensure he only accepted rides at 55kg or 56kg in the near future.
--The Committee advised Mr Harris that his record in regard to Rule 520 (4) (c) was abysmal and that he was fashioning a cavalier approach to his obligations to owners, trainers and the betting public. Mr Walker's closer interest in Mr Harris' future engagement was taken into account by the Committee in imposing a fine of $400.
