Wellington RC 23 January 2012 – R 7
ID: JCA16548
Code:
Thoroughbred
Meet Title:
Wellington RC - 23 January 2012
Meet Chair:
NMcCutcheon
Meet Committee Member 1:
PWilliams
Race Date:
2012/01/23
Race Number:
R 7
Decision:
As Mr Cameron admitted the breach, the charge was found to be proved.
Penalty:
Mr Cameron’s Jockeys Licence was suspended from the end of racing on 29 January 2012 up to and including racing on 3 February 2012 (four riding days). The days being; 30 January (Te Teko), 1 February (Canterbury), 2 February (Wanganui), 3 February (Paeroa).
Charge:
Following the running of race 7 information A3017 was filed by Stipendiary Mr N Goodwin under Rule 638(1)(d). The information stated Mr M Cameron permitted his mount to shift inwards near the 1700m when not sufficiently clear of (Hakuna Matata) (V Johnston) which was crowded and checked.
Rule 638(1)(d) states: “A rider shall not ride a horse in a manner which the Judicial Committee considers to be …careless”
Facts:
Mr Goodwin showed all available films of the incident that had occurred. Mr Goodwin said leaving the straight the first time Mr Cameron allowed his mount to come in and pressured V Johnston’s mount who eventually got tightened and had to check out of a run that she was fully entitled to.
Mr Cameron said going to the first corner he was aware that he had two runners to his inside and going round the corner he was trying to get into a position in the race. He thought Vanessa Johnston was easing back, but obviously let his horse slide in a little bit too quickly and put too much pressure on her. He felt that the inside horse may have shifted out a little, but it was mostly from him. He said he did put Vanessa in an awkward spot.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr Goodwin said Mr Cameron was a very busy rider and only had three suspensions for careless riding in the previous twelve months. He categorised the carelessness in the low range and said a term of suspension was appropriate.
Mr Cameron asked that any suspension imposed start after racing on 29 January 2012.
Reasons for Penalty:
Judicial Committees have a starting point of five riding days suspension. We have taken into account that Mr Cameron admitted the breach, that he has a good riding record, and that the carelessness was at the low end of the range. We have determined that a suspension of four riding days is the appropriate penalty.
