Wellington RC 16 January 2021 – R 1 – Chair, Mr N McCutcheon
ID: JCA12819
Code:
Thoroughbred
Meet Title:
Wellington RC - 16 January 2021
Meet Chair:
NMcCutcheon
Meet Committee Member 1:
NMoffatt
Race Date:
2021/01/16
Race Number:
R 1
Decision:
Due to the charge being admitted, together with the very clear film evidence, the charge was found proved.
Penalty:
Mr Calder’s Jockey’s Licence was suspended from the close of racing on 20 January up to the end of racing on 28 January 2021 (4 Riding Days) and fined $250.
Facts:
Following the running of Race 1 (Gee & Hickton Funeral Directors Premier) Information A14118 was filed with the Judicial Committee. It was alleged that Mr Calder the Rider of SUPER PURSUIT permitted his mount to shift in near the 1200m when insufficiently clear of LANGKAWI which was checked.
Mr Calder acknowledged that he admitted the breach and said that he understood the Rule and the charge.
Mr Goodwin showed all film replays and identified the runners concerned, Mr Goodwin said that Mr Calder went from a position of 3-wide to 2-wide when not clear of LANGKAWI who was checked and lost 2 lengths.
Mr Calder said that he agreed with the Stipendiary Stewards. He added that he was attempting to follow the leaders with LANGKAWI inside him. He said that he did put LANGKAWI in a tight run and that he had to be withdrawn, he added that he was not 2 lengths clear at any point.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr Oatham said that Mr Calder had a good record with only one breach under the Rule in the last 12 months. The Stewards placed the carelessness towards the lower end of the scale.
Mr Calder asked that any suspension imposed start after racing on 20 January 2021.
Reasons for Penalty:
The Committee found that Mr Calder’s carelessness sat between low and mid-range.
Mr Calder shifted in across LANGKAWI when not clear, resulting in that runner being in trouble for a number of strides when attempting to avoid heels. Taking into account the good record we considered that the appropriate penalty was a term of suspension of 4-Riding Days and a fine of $250.
