Following the running of the Windsor Park Stud 3Y0 Handicap Mr D. Walsh rider of SHOT SILK requested a ruling under rule 865 A as to whether his horse was denied a fair start.
----
Mr George (Chief Stipendiary Steward) used the head on film of the start to show SHOT SILK’S gate fail to open in line with the others.
----
Mr Walsh stated that SHOT SILK had in fact burst the gate open.
----
SHOT SILK lost several lengths as a result of the gate’s failure and did not feature in the finish.
----
We are satisfied that SHOT SILK was prevented from taking an effective part in the race due to the failure of its barrier gate to open. The horse’s chances were clearly prejudiced by that event.
----
Pursuant to rule 865 A we declare SHOT SILK to be a non-runner and direct the dividends be set in accordance with this decision.
