Following the running of the Windsor Park Stud Whyte Handicap Mr R. Bishop rider of GO THENAKI admitted a charge of careless riding under rule 871(1)(d).

--

--

Mr R. Hannam assisted Mr Bishop at the hearing.

--

--

Mr Goodwin, stipendiary steward, used the head and side films of the finish to show that as the field entered the straight GO THENAKI moved in three times bumping GREENBACK before veering across and taking that horse's line and forcing its rider Ms L. Cropp to stop racing. Mr Bishop made no effort to correct his horse's wayward line or mitigate the affects of its erratic racing over some distance.

--

--

On the issue of penalty Mr McCutcheon advised the Committee that Mr Bishop had no previous charges. He noted GO THENAKI had been relegated from 4th to 6th and considered Mr Bishop's carelessness warranted a period of suspension. Mr Hannam submitted Mr Bishop was a promising young apprentice who was perhaps a little too absorbed in his own mount's prospects on this occasion.

--

--

We believe a suspension is appropriate particularly given Mr Bishop's failure to correct his horse's wayward line and we therefore suspend him from the close of racing on 15 July 2006 until the close of racing on the 27 July 2006.
