Following the running of Race 2, Mr Bradley, the rider of Linkin Park, was charged with careless riding.
| -- Following the running of Race 2, Mr Bradley, the rider of Linkin Park, was charged with careless riding. The allegation was that when about 650m to run, he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when not sufficiently clear of Quiet Spring, causing Mr JK Waddell, the rider of that horse, to check. --Mr Bradley admitted the breach of rule. The Committee therefore found it proved leaving only the issue of penalty to be decided. The facts, which were not disputed, were outlined by Mr Ching. At about the 650m mark, Mr Bradley's horse went past Mr Waddell's mount, on its outside, and then headed it off. In doing so Mr Bradley allowed Linkin Park to 'shave? Quiet Spring i.e. allowed it to shift inwards before being its own length plus a length clear of that horse. As a result, Mr Waddell checked his mount for one stride to ensure that it did not clip the heels of Linkin Park. --Mr Ching considered that it was a clear cut case of careless riding. However he also noted that the horses involved were both untried 2year olds and considered that the offending was at the lowest end of the scale. Mr Bradley agreed with Mr Ching. He said he elected to go past Quiet Spring because his horse was racing greenly but conceded that the check to Quiet Spring arose from an error of judgement on his part. --Mr Ching noted that Mr Bradley had three previous charges of careless riding in the last 12 months, the latest being in November 2004. He did not consider that to be excessive given the number of rides Mr Bradley had in the same period. In this case, given that the offending was at the lowest end of the scale, Mr Ching considered that it would be adequately dealt with by way of a fine. Mr Bradley agreed. ----DECISION ----The Committee found itself in total agreement with the submissions made by Messrs Ching and Bradley. Mr Bradley was fined $750.00. ------
