Following the running of Race 8 at Waipukurau the siren sounded.
--The Stipendiary Steward seeked a ruling brought under Rule 637 (1) (B) to disqualify Latchford Star from Race 8.

--Latchford Star was provisionally placed 2nd. The provisional placings were:
6 – Fantastic Hash
14 – Latchford Star
4 – Molly OReily
8 – Shoothim
9 – Bo Jangles Boy
13 – Miss Krisdell

- Representatives of Shoothim (J. B. McKenzie) provisionally placed 4th
Stipendiary Steward Neal showed the available films and pointed out the three separate incidents attributed to Latchford Star provisionally placed 2nd by the judge.
--He noted the inward movement on all three occasions which culminated in OCerkins Luck ridden by B. Lammas clipping heels and falling.
--Mr. Neal informed the committee that he was most concerned that after the first two inward movements by Latchford Star at which Jockey K. Hercock did stop riding and ease off Latchford Star upon being hit by the whip in the final run to the line moved sharply inwards forcing the horse on its inside to make contact with OCerkins Luck who clipped heels and fell.
--Mr. P. Belsham, trainer of Latchford Star after viewing the films, concurred with Stipendiary Steward Neals summary of the incident and agreed that Larchford Star be disqualified.
--Decision and Reason:
--In coming to our decision to disqualify Latchford Star from its provisional placing of 2nd we took into account trainer P. Belsham acceptance of this course of action and the obvious inward movement on three occasions which caused on the third occasion a horse to fall.
