Mr McNally was charge with a breach of r869 (3) (b) – careless driving - following an incident in Race 9. Stewards alleged that “Mr McNally (PUNT AWAY) drove carelessly into the first bend when shifting inwards and checking MARTIN JOHN”.
Mr McNally admitted the charge and appeared at the hearing.
Mr Munro, with the use of the videos, stated Mr McNally crossed over in front of MARTIN JOHN when entering the first bend. He was not fully clear of MARTIN JOHN and his sulky wheel struck the front leg of MARTIN JOHN causing that horse to break and lose its position.
Mr McNally stated he allowed PUNT AWAY to drift inwards. He thought he was clear. It was an error of judgement on his part.
