DECISION:
--Following the running of Race 4 (the steeple chase event) at the Waimate Racing Club's meeting on Sunday 16 July, the stipendiary steward, Mr SC Ching, filed a request for a ruling with regard to the horse "Captain Orange". "Captain Orange" failed to negotiate the pylon at the 700 metre mark and ran on the wrong side of the pylon after striking it.
--Accordingly, in accordance with Rule 870(1) Mr Ching was of the view that the horse should be disqualified.
--The Judicial Committee viewed the film of the incident. It was readily apparent that "Captain Orange" did run on the wrong side of the pylon and therefore, a clear breach of Rule 870(1) was committed.
--DECISION
--"Captain Orange" finished last, but the fact of the matter is that the placing does not matter as the horse was in breach of Rule 870(1) and was accordingly disqualified.
