Mr Muniandy is suspended from the completion of race riding at the Greymouth meeting on January 4th, up to and including the Westland RC meeting on January 16th (3 South Island days).
Facts:
Following the running of the COOKE HOWLISON HYUNDAI/PGG WRIGHTSON MAIDEN Mr Davidson alleged that near the 200 metres Mr S Muniandy (Zac’s Girl) shifted outwards from his rails position coming into contact with and checking Desert Girl (A Morgan) and Handsome Dax (J Bullard).
Mr Muniandy admitted the charge and appeared at the hearing.
Rule 638 (1) (d) provides for the following:
(1) A rider shall not ride a horse in a manner which the Judicial Committee considers to be
(d) careless.
Mr Davidson stated Zac’s Girl was trailing the leader Trooper. Nearing the 200 metres Mr Muniandy shifted his mount outwards coming into contact with Desert Girl on his outer. He continued the outwards movement with both Desert Girl and Handsome Dax, on his outer, becoming crowded for racing room. Mr Davidson said as Mr Muniandy shifted his mount outwards Trooper did run outwards slightly, and at the same time both Handsome Dax and Desert Girl were laying inwards onto Zac’s Girl. This contributed to the interference to both those runners. However, he stated at no time did Mr Muniandy have clear racing room to shift outwards.
Mr Muniandy stated he had room to shift outwards initially, but his mount did not come out quickly enough.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr Davidson said Mr Muniandy had admitted the charge at the earliest opportunity. Despite a recent suspension of three days, his riding record was reasonable which was to his credit. He said the level of interference was mid range and sought a suspension of 3 to 4 South Island racing days.
Mr Muniandy said he had a good riding record with just the one suspension for a similar breach of the rule this season. He believed a three day suspension was appropriate. He was committed to riding engagements at both Omakau (January 2nd) and Greymouth (January 4th). He did not seek a deferment of penalty.
Reasons for Penalty:
After considering the submissions the Committee gave Mr Muniandy credit for his early admission and his overall good riding record. The committee viewed the incident as mid range and imposed a suspension of three days.
