| -- This is a protest by Stipendiary Steward J P Oatham alleging that CARRIE (T Harris) placed third by the Judge interfered with the chances of SILVER WHIRL (C Lammas) in the final straight. The margin between third and fourth was a short neck. ----The incident was demonstrated on video by Stipendiary Steward A Coles who pointed out an initial movement in by CARRIE making slight contact on one occasion and thereafter the inward movement continued for a further 2 to 3 horse widths in the run to the finish. He suggested it was for the Committee to determine if the chances of SILVER WHIRL were affected as a result of the prolonged inward movement. Both riders appeared to be riding out to the finish. ----Mr Lammas confirmed that he had suffered interference starting 200 metres out and continued by crowding him for about 100 metres. His mount, he said, was put off stride for 2 ? 3 strides and being unable to fully ride it out he believed had cost him about half a length. ----Mr M Baker, the trainer of CARRIE, felt that jockey Lammas had not stopped riding at any stage and therefore he doubted whether his chances were affected. ----After considering all the evidence including the video the Committee are satisfied that while interference has occurred there is some doubt about whether the chances of SILVER WHIRL have been affected as stated by Mr Lammas. While he may have been hampered or inconvenienced he was still able to keep riding out and the margin of a short neck seemed to be appropriate in all the circumstances. Accordingly the benefit of the doubt is given to CARRIE, the protest is dismissed and the Judge's placings will stand. ------
