Waikato RC 24 October 2011 – R 11
ID: JCA15759
Code:
Thoroughbred
Meet Title:
Waikato RC - 24 October 2011
Meet Chair:
ADooley
Meet Committee Member 1:
AGodsalve
Race Date:
2011/10/24
Race Number:
R 11
Decision:
As Mr Cameron admitted the breach we find the charge proved.
Penalty:
Accordingly we impose a suspension on Mr Cameron which will commence after racing on 26th October 2011 and conclude after racing on 30th October 2011(4 days).
Charge:
Following race 11 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 638(1) (d). The informant Mr Williamson alleged that Mr Cameron permitted his mount GOTTINO to shift out passing the 400 metres to obtain clear running when not clear of ICESKATES ridden by Mr J Collett who was obliged to check his mount.
Facts:
Mr Coles demonstrated the video films which showed at the 400 metres Mr Cameron angles his mount out into the running line of Mr Collett when only a bare length clear. This resulted in Mr Collett standing up and taking hold of his mount.
Mr Cameron said he tried to make a run for his horse as he was travelling better than Mr Collett, however conceded he misjudged the movement.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr Williamson produced Mr Cameron’s record which showed 3 previous suspensions in the last 12 months. His last suspension was in December 2010 at Ellerslie. He said Mr Cameron was the leading rider in the country and therefore was classified as a national rider. He submitted the degree of interference was low range and with Mr Cameron’s early admission and his good record a suspension at the lowest end would be appropriate.
Mr Cameron informed the committee he had commitments at Te Teko on the 26th October 2011 and would like the suspension to start immediately after that race day.
Reasons for Penalty:
The committee carefully considered all the evidence and submissions as presented. The mitigating factors are Mr Cameron’s admission of the breach and his good riding record. The aggravating factors are his level of carelessness which we assess as low end, and the interference received by Mr Collett. We accept that Mr Cameron travels the country to ride in races. The Committee reminded Mr Cameron he needed to exercise more care when shifting ground.
