--After Race 10, Trainer Mr C Thornton lodged a protest alleging interference by CONGALINE (M Walker), placed first by the judge, affecting the chances of SANDGATE (L Allpress), placed second by the judge.
--The Judge's placings were No.5 (head), No.3 (1-1/2 lengths), No.8 (Long head), No.10 (Long head), No.6 (Long neck), No.7.
--The protest was lodged pursuant to Rule 876(1) and seeks relegation of CONGALINE. As the protest was not filed by a Stipendiary Steward the sum of $100 has been lodged with the Registrar in accordance with Rule 1103(4)(ii).
--The first question, which the judicial committee is required to consider, is whether SANDGATE was interfered with and whether CONGALINE caused that interference as alleged.
--The committee heard evidence from Mrs Allpress, jockey of SANDGATE, No.3, who contended that CONGALINE moved outwards and made contact with her mount.
--After reviewing the relevant race videos (head-on and side-on) and hearing from Stipendiary Steward Mr J Oatham, the committee found that there was no contact or interference as alleged. Accordingly the protest is dismissed.
