The information alleges that R Jones broke his riding engagement on the horse Gravel in Race 2.

--

--

Mr Jones was present at the hearing and did not admit the breach.

--

--

Mr Goodwin read the rule which Mr Jones acknowledged he understood.

--

--

Mr Goodwin outlined the facts which were as follows:

--

--

Mr Jones had been the declared rider of the horse Gravel and had not arrived at the course by weigh out time and was replaced by Mr D Walker.

--

--

At the hearing Mr Jones informed the Committee that he had been running late for a variety of reasons i.e. two lots of road work had caused delays, as well as receiving a speeding ticket at Awakino ( the ticket was produced to the Committee). When he had been able to use his cellphone he called fellow jockey Vinny Colgan and asked him to advise the Clerk of the Scales.

--

--

Mr W Coombes the Clerk of the Scales was then called and when asked by the Committee if Mr Colgan had told him of Mr Jones's call, he said he had. In answer to a further question he said he had not told anyone of Mr Colgan's conversation with him.

--

--

Mr Goodwin was unaware of the call by Mr Jones to Mr Colgan.

--

--

All those present acknowledged they had nothing further to add and left the Committee to make a decision.

--

--

Prior to making a decision the Committee took into account all of the evidence given them and were of the view Mr Jones had made every effort to contact the Club as to his lateness, it was not his fault that the Clerk of the Scales had not passed on the information given him by Mr Colgan.

--

--

They dismissed the charge but in doing so advised Mr Jones to give himself more time to get to a meeting in future and reminded him he should have spoken to a Stipendary Steward.
