Jockey Miss L McGregor was charged with Careless Riding (Rule 871(1)(d)) following her ride in Race 3, the Southland Vehicle Sales Maiden.

As a result of information 31945 it was agreed by all parties that all evidence was an accurate record and no further evidence was submitted by either the Stipendary stewards and Miss McGregor.

In fixing penalty Mr Chin produced Miss McGregor's recent riding record (over last 12 Months), which showed one suspension under this rule. Mr Ching also stated that Miss McGregor was riding approx 8-9 horses per race day and that she had recently moved from the North Island to the South Island. Mr Ching also stated that he believed the alleged interference ? careless riding was middle to the upper end of the scale of carelessness.

Miss McGregor said that the timing of a possible suspension was unfortunate and she would prefer a fine, there being two feature meetings in the next two weeks.

In fixing penalty concessions were given to Miss McGregor's guilty plea, her previous riding record and the significant loss of economic opportunity in the near future. Clearly however the owner of the relegated horse and TAB investors suffered by her actions.

Taking all factors into account, Miss McGregor was suspended up to and including Saturday 11^th February and fined the sum of $ 750.00
