Decision: Following Race 7 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by the informant, Stipendiary Steward  Mr J P Oatham, that A Calder, rider of VALLEY CHIEF allowed his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear

Following Race 7 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by the informant, Stipendiary Steward  Mr J P Oatham, that A Calder, rider of VALLEY CHIEF allowed his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear of PULBOROUGH ( J Waddell) dictating that runner inwards tightening ARROW ( L Cropp) who was checked.

--

 Mr Calder admitted the charge

--

Mr W Robinson demonstrated the video which showed Mr Calder on his mount VALLEY CHIEF crossing over soon after the start when not sufficiently clear of PULBOROUGH who in turn was forced across to take the line of ARROW who was tightened then was severely checked.

--

 PENALTY

--

As Mr Calder has admitted the offence the only decision to be made is on the penalty.

--

Mr Oatham gave Mr Calder's good record and requested a suspension because of the degree of interference. He also pointed out that Mr Calder rode extensively at all venues in the North Island.

--

Mr Calder had nothing to add.

--

After considering the offence and taking the submissions into account we agree with Mr Oatham that a suspension is appropriate. The interference was not of a minor nature, but to Mr Calder's credit is his admission of the offence and his good record. Consequently we suspend him from riding from the conclusion of racing on 18 March till the conclusion of racing on 25 March. (3 days)
