Code:

Meet Title:
South Canterbury RC - 13 July 2012
Meet Chair:
PKnowles
Meet Committee Member 1:
JMillar
Race Date:
2012/07/13
Race Number:
R 1
Decision:
Accordingly Au Naturel is relegated from second placing to third placing, and Dalamo promoted from third placing to second placing.
The Official placings are now:
1st Golden Crown (3)
2nd Dalamo (2)
3rd Au Naturel (4)
4th Kiwi Hussler (1)
5th Helios (5)
Facts:
Ms Black lodged a protest against the second placed horse Au Naturel (C Singer) alleging interference at the last fence.
Submissions for Decision:
Mr McLachlan (Stipendiary Steward) demonstrated on the video that approaching the last hurdle (approx.160m from the finish) Au Naturel was hanging inwards onto Dalamo (M Mitchell). A few strides before the hurdle Au Naturel shifted inwards crowding Dalamo and on taking the jump came into contact with Dalamo causing interference.
Ms Black stated that in her opinion her horse had suffered severe interference by Au Naturel prior to the final hurdle and immediately on landing. She was of the view her horse would have beaten the other runner at the finish.
Mr Mitchell (Jockey-Dalamo) stated that his horse was unbalanced by the interference which cost him a half a length on landing. This caused the horse to lose forward momentum for several strides. He felt he was going well enough to run second. In response to a question from Mr John Parsons (Co-trainer Au Naturel) concerning whether his horse held an advantage over the jump, Mr Mitchell replied he believed both horses were on equal terms prior to the interference.
Mr Singer stated his horse had been hanging inwards badly prior to the jump and admitted his horse had caused interference to Dalamo. However he believed his horse had gained ground on Dalamo short of the post.
Reasons for Decision:
The committee is satisfied the interference by Au Naturel against Dalamo approaching the final hurdle and on landing was severe and that Dalamo would have finished in a better placing.
Au Naturel was hanging inwards badly prior to the final hurdle and came into contact with Dalamo on landing. This caused Dalamo to become unbalanced, lose momentum and lose ground. The final margin of a neck was also a factor in the committee’s decision.
