Decision: Following the running of Race 3, the Waterloo Hotel / Otago Daily Times Trot, a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr C J Allison under Rule 870 (3) Breaking Horse Regulations, alleging that VALLEY OF FIRE, horse 9, driven by R H Jenkins, placed third by the judge, broke approximately 60 metres from the finish and continued to gallop across the finish line.

Following the running of Race 3, the Waterloo Hotel / Otago Daily Times Trot, a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr C J Allison under Rule 870 (3) Breaking Horse Regulations, alleging that VALLEY OF FIRE, horse 9, driven by R H Jenkins, placed third by the judge, broke approximately 60 metres from the finish and continued to gallop across the finish line.

VALLEY OF FIRE was therefore considered to be in breach of Rule 870 (3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations.

Film of the incident was shown, establishing VALLEY OF FIRE broke at about the 60 metre point and is in a gallop passing the 50 metre marker on the inside of the track.  VALLEY OF FIRE continues on in a break to the finish.

Mr Jenkins could add nothing to the hear, once the film had been shown.

--

The protest is therefore upheld and VALLEY OF FRIRE disqualified from the event under Rule 1003 (2).
