Decision: Following the running of Race 10, driver Todd Woodward appeared on a breach of Rule 847(1) and the Safety Gear Regulations in that he checked himself out without wearing a safety vest.
DECISION & REASON:
--Following the running of Race 10, driver Todd Woodward appeared on a breach of Rule 847(1) and the Safety Gear Regulations in that he checked himself out without wearing a safety vest. Mr Woodward admitted the breach and elected not to be present.
--Explaining the circumstances, stipendiary steward Mr Ydgren said that Mr Woodward arrived in the birdcage and then went out on to the track, driving GLADYS EMANUEL. It was noted he didn’t have a safety vest and he was stopped after parading once down the straight. When spoken to he said he did not have one on and said he had forgotten.
--Mr Ydgren emphasised that this is a safety issue, and he recommended a monetary penalty consistent with other recent penalties.
--Penalty:
--In this case, and in the absence of submissions from Mr Woodward, I will abide by the recommendations of the stipendiary steward. Mr Woodward has admitted the breach under Rule 847(1) and the Safety Gear Regulations, of failing to wear a safety vest.
--Following submissions and for the sake of consistency, in keeping with other recent cases a fine of $400 will apply.
