Following the running of Race 2, Cran Dalgety – Rangiora Harness Racing Club / Yaldhurst Hotel Trainer of the Year Pace, an information was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mrs K R Williams, against Licensed Open Driver, Ms A J Laing, alleging that Ms Laing, as the driver of HAYTON NICOL in the Race, moved STARGLO HANOVER (D J Butt) and MENE MENE (C D Thornley) wider on the track with approximately 1400 metres to run – in breach of the push-out Rule.
DECISION AND REASONS:
--Following the running of Race 2, Cran Dalgety – Rangiora Harness Racing Club / Yaldhurst Hotel Trainer of the Year Pace, an information was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mrs K R Williams, against Licensed Open Driver, Ms A J Laing, alleging that Ms Laing, as the driver of HAYTON NICOL in the Race, moved STARGLO HANOVER (D J Butt) and MENE MENE (C D Thornley) wider on the track with approximately 1400 metres to run – in breach of the push-out Rule.
----
Ms Laing had signed the Statement by the Defendant on the information form indicating, firstly, that she admitted the breach and, secondly, that she did not wish to be present at the hearing of the information. The charge was found proved accordingly.
----
Mr N G McIntyre, Stipendiary Steward, showed a video replay of the relevant portion of the Race, which was as the field entered the home straight with approximately 1400 metres to run. He pointed out HAYTON NICOL racing 5 places back on the marker line. At that point NEESEY BROMAC (B J Hill), which had been racing outside HAYTON NICOL, moved out to improve 3-wide at the same time as MENE MENE improved 3-wide. Mr Hill came out prior to Mr Thornley. Mr Butt was on the back of NEESEY BROMAC. Ms Laing tried to take up the position that Mr Hill had vacated but, in the meantime Mr Butt had improved up outside her and was forced from the two-out line to the three-out line with Mr Thornley being forced 4-wide.
----
The Committee was satisfied that Ms Laing had committed a breach of the push-out Rule and noted her admission of the breach.
----
Mrs Williams recommended a fine of $200.
----
The Committee took into account Ms Laing’s admission of the breach and her previous good record. Ms Laing was fined the sum of $200.
