Decision: Following the running of Race 2, Harness Racing North Canterbury Trot, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr S P Renault, against MASTER BOMBER (G D O’Reilly), placed 5th by the judge, on the ground of “breaking from its gait with approximately 150 metres left to race”.

DECISION AND REASONS:
Following the running of Race 2, Harness Racing North Canterbury Trot, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr S P Renault, against MASTER BOMBER (G D O’Reilly), placed 5th by the judge, on the ground of “breaking from its gait with approximately 150 metres left to race”.

--

Mr George Burrows, as agent for the trainer, Mr H J Christey, had endorsed and signed a statement on the information form to the effect that “I do not contest the disqualification”.

--

Mr Renault showed MASTER BOMBER leading the field into the straight for the final time. The horse then broke from its gait and continued in a gallop for approximately 150 metres to the finishing line, finishing in 5th placing. Mr Renault said that the Stewards were seeking disqualification of MASTER BOMBER from the Race.

--

The Committee was satisfied that MASTER BOMBER had broken from its gait within the final 200 metres of the Race and had continued on in the break for a distance for a distance of 50 metres or greater and, in terms of the Breaking Horses Regulation, had failed to promptly regain its proper gait in breach of Rule 870 (4) (a).

--

The Committee was satisfied that it was appropriate to disqualify MASTER BOMBER from the Race. Accordingly, the protest was upheld and MASTER BOMBER was disqualified from the Race. Consequent upon the disqualification, the amended placings for the Race are as follows:
1st   10  Sun of Loose
2nd    9  Andand J Cee
3rd    5  Ushaka Bromac
4th    2  Shing Bromac
5th  14  Sunny Sierra
