Decision: Following the running of the 2nd Non Tote Race, Australasian Breeders Crown (Heat) Mobile Pace for Two-Year-Old fillies, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr N M Ydgren, against MEURSAULT (M P Jones), placed 3rd by the judge
DECISION AND REASONS:
--Following the running of the 2nd Non Tote Race, Australasian Breeders Crown (Heat) Mobile Pace for Two-Year-Old fillies, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr N M Ydgren, against MEURSAULT (M P Jones), placed 3rd by the judge, on the ground of breaking from its gait in the run home.

Mr Jones had endorsed the information form “I do not contest the disqualification of Meursault” and had signed the endorsement.
----
Mr Ydgren showed a video replay of the final 200 metres of the Race. He pointed out MEURSAULT break from its gait inside the final 200 metres and continue in a gallop, he alleged, for at least 60 metres based on the distance between pylons being 20 metres.
----
The Committee noted that Mr Jones did not contest that MEURSAULT had galloped for a distance in excess of 50 metres inside the final 200 metres of the Race. Further, the Committee was satisfied, from its viewing of the video replay, that MEURSAULT had broken from its gait within the final 200 metres of the Race and had continued in the break for a distance of 50 metres or greater and was therefore in breach of Rule 870 (3) in that it had failed to promptly regain its proper gait.

Accordingly, the protest was upheld and MERSAULT was disqualified from the Race under Rule 1003 (2) (a).

As a consequence of the disqualification, the amended result for the Race is as follows:
--1st 4 Manhattan Sparkle
--2nd 3 Wonderful Tonight
--3rd 2 Letspartyallnite
