Following the running of Race 4 a hearing into a charge of improper riding against Mr. A. Calder and brought under Rule 638 (1) (c) was opened.

Mr. Calder did not admit the breach and requested an adjournment. He said the charge was more serious than one of careless riding and he wanted to get help from someone with more expertise than himself.
----
Mr. George agreed that the charge was more serious and did not oppose an adjournment.
----
The committee asked Mr. Calder how much time he needed and he replied that a week would be enough.
----
After considering Mr. Calder’s request and his reasons for delaying the hearing the committee granted an adjournment. We considered it not unreasonable for Mr. Calder to want extra time and help defending a more serious charge such as improper riding.
----
Following discussions with all parties the hearing was adjourned until Monday April 5th to be heard at Ellerslie Racecourse. Mr. Calder had no opposition to the charge being heard on race day.
