Following Race 8 an information was lodged seeking a ruling whether SARAJAY (No.6) ridden by L Innes was denied a fair start due to a gate malfunction.

DECISION AND REASON:
--Following Race 8 an information was lodged seeking a ruling whether SARAJAY (No.6) ridden by L Innes was denied a fair start due to a gate malfunction.
--The committee heard evidence from Mr A Coles and he demonstrated on the race video at the start. It clearly showed the gate failed to open at the start and SARAJAY was pulled up.
--The committee found that SARAJAY, drawn 9 (outside) was prevented from taking an effective part in the race due to the mechanical failure of the starting stalls and such occurrence materially prejudiced the chances of SARAJAY.
--Conclusion:
--The committee declared SARAJAY to be a non-starter and ordered a refund of all bets.
