Decision:
Following Race 6 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 876 (1) when it was alleged by the Informant, Mr. T. Autridge trainer of the third horse, PONDAROSA PRINCESS, that DEMHILLS, placed 1st by the judge, interfered with the chances of his horse
Following Race 6 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 876 (1) when it was alleged by the Informant, Mr. T. Autridge trainer of the third horse, PONDAROSA PRINCESS, that DEMHILLS, placed 1st by the judge, interfered with the chances of his horse in the final straight. Mr. Autridge demonstrated the video films and showed the eventual winner DEMHILLS ran out and bumped his horse PONDAROSA PRINCESS causing it to lose ground. He said that it was only beaten by a long head for second which he believed the horse would have achieved.
--Ms. Melanie-Jane Blair rider of PONDAROSA PRINCESS said she had to stop riding when DEMHILLS came out and bumped her and this cost her two strides.
--Mr P. Busittin, trainer of DEMHILLS, said his horse had come from behind the second and third placegetters and that PONDEROSA PRINCESS was not taking any ground off the second horse at the line.
--Ms. Sam Spratt, rider of DEMHILLS said that while admitting she came out it was apparent that the rider of PONDEROSA PRINCESS barely stopped riding.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr. A. Coles said that there was movement out from DEMHILLS but did not believe the two strides lost by PONDEROSA PRINCESS would have resulted in that horse finishing second.
----
DECISION
--The Committee carefully considered all evidence and reviewed the video films. It was evident to the Committee that PONDEROSA PRINCESS did suffer interference from DEMHILLS when that horse moved out into its line and made contact.
--However we do not believe the two strides PONDEROSA PRINCESS lost as a result of this interference (as stated by its rider) was enough for us to be satisfied that she would have finished second and although PONDEROSA PRINCESS finished on strongly, the second horse was also finishing generously. Also taken into account by the Committee was the slight inward movement of the horse ASKYOURSELF on the outside of PONDAROSA PRINCESS, which contributed to the interference. This adds weight to the doubt the Committee had which means the status quo must remain.
--Accordingly the protest is dismissed and the judges placings stand.
