Ms Schofer was fined $300, which is the penalty starting point for a first breach of the Rule.

Facts:

Following the running of Race 4 (NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race) Information No. A11626 was filed with the Judicial Committee. It was alleged that Ms Schofer used the whip excessively prior to the 100m.

Ms Schofer said that she understood the Rule, Guidelines and confirmed that she admitted the breach.

Mr Balcombe showed the film replays and said that Ms Schofer used the whip 9 times prior to the 100m without the required respite.

Ms Schofer said that her horse hung in and when she realised that she had used the whip too much, she did stop. (Ms Schofer had the whip in the left hand).

Mrs Clapperton said that Ms Schofer’s mount did hang in, but that Ms Schofer needs to sit down and drive her mounts forward more.

Mr Balcombe said that this was Ms Schofer’s first breach of the Rule. Mrs Clapperton asked the Committee to take into account Ms Schofer’s excellent record.
