Following the running of Race 7 an information was lodged under Rule 871 (1) (d) alleging that T.Sasada allowed his mount to shift inwards near the 1000m when not clear of Woodbury Lane and Lord Monty who were both checked.
----
Mr. Sasada admitted the breach of the rule and was assisted by Ms Karen Zimmerman.
----
Mr. Goodwin used the video to outline the incident which occurred soon after the start of the race. Mr. Sasada drew the outside barrier and made a good beginning but angled his mount inwards towards the fence. In doing so he was not clear of Woodbury Lane and that horse’s rider had to check her mount which in turn caused tightening to Lord Monty on the fence. Ms Alpress lost an estimated 2 ½ lengths of ground due to the interference.
----
Mr Goodwin told the committee that Mr. Sasada was a good up and coming rider with only two days remaining of his apprenticeship. He has a good riding record with no careless riding charges within the past year and is about to move to the Matamata area. Mr Goodwin submitted that a term of suspension was warranted for this breach of the careless riding rule.
----
Mr. Sasada and Ms Zimmerman had nothing to add.
----
Decision
----
The committee took into account all of the submissions including Mr Sasada’s very good riding record. It was our opinion that a four day suspension was appropriate considering the quite severe interference suffered by Ms Allpress and the consequential hampering of the second horse. Both of these horses were denied the clear line of running that they were entitled to.
--Mr Sasada is suspended from the conclusion of racing today 16th August 2008 until the conclusion of racing on Saturday 23rd August.
