Race Date:
2007/08/18

Race Number:
Race 10

Decision:

Following the running of Race 10, The Courtesy Ford Handicap, Mr R.Stam was charged with careless riding under rule 871 (1) (d).

Following the running of Race 10, The Courtesy Ford Handicap, Mr R.Stam was charged with careless riding under rule 871 (1) (d). The information alleged that R.Stam the rider of Mr Bowee angled his mount outward near the 400 metres forcing Jonbalena (C.Johnson) out on to Mybrearne (D.Bradley) who had to check. Sanndie (S.Doyle) who was outside Mybrearne was also tightened in this incident.

--

Mr Stam admitted the breach.

--

Mr George asked Mr Goodwin to show the incident as it occurred on video.

--

He identified all the horses involved and showed how just after straightening for home Mr Stam moved out when not sufficiently clear onto Jonbalena and the outward movement caused interference to the other runners.

--

Mr Stam's riding record shows the following suspensions:

--

14/7/07 ? 3 days

--

10/12/06 ? 3 days

--

02/11/06 ? 3 days

--

The stewards submitted that a suspension of 4 ? 6 days would be appropriate in the circumstances.

--

Mr Stam had no comment in relation to penalty but did tell the committee that he only rides in the Central Districts.

--

Penalty

--

In coming to a decision on penalty the committee considered all of the submissions put before it.

--

It was quite clear that due to the nature of the interference and the number of horses involved that the penalty had to be by way of suspension. The only mitigating factor was that Mr Stam admitted the breach.

--

He is suspended from riding from the conclusion of racing today, Saturday August 18th until the conclusion of racing on Saturday September 8th which is calculated to be 5 Central Districts riding days.
