Ms Macnab is suspended from the end of racing on Saturday, 17 October 2020 until the end of racing at Whanganui on Sunday, 1 November 2020, which equates to 7 national riding days.

Facts:

Following the running of Race 2, the Harcourts Otaki Highweight, Stipendiary Steward, Mr N Goodwin presented an Information that charged Ms Kayla Macnab, Licensed Rider, with excessive use of the whip, a breach of Rule 638(3)(b(ii).

Mr Goodwin identified Ms Macnab’s mount FANTASY FLIGHT on the race film and demonstrated that she had struck her mount with the whip 11 times prior to the 100 metre mark.

The horse finished in 3rd place.

Ms Macnab signed the Informaton admitting the charge.

Submissions for Penalty:

Mr Goodwin referred to the Revised Whip Guidelines which recommend a starting point of 6 day suspension if the number of strikes is 10 or more.

Ms Macnab had no comment to make regarding a possible supsension.

Reasons for Penalty:

Given there are only 2 national days where Jumps or Highweight riders may ride (Ellerslie on Saturday, 17 October and Whanganui on Sunday, 1 November 2020) it is appropriate that suspension until after racing on 1 November 2020 be imposed.
