Following the running of Race 3 an information was lodged alleging a breach of rule 869 (2) in that F. Auret presented a horse in the enclosure with the wrong saddle.

--

Mr. Auret admitted the breach.

--

--

Mr. Davidson outlined the facts of the incident to the committee.

--

Mr Auret’s mother, who was helping him throughout the day, had taken two saddles from the weigh-out room at the same time for two of his horses.  The saddles were for Assertive Princess who was running in race four and Royal Call running in race three.

--

The saddles were inadvertently mixed up and placed on the wrong horses.

--

When Mr. Parkes came to mount Royal Call in the parade ring prior to race three the mistake was noticed and the horse returned to have the correct saddle put on.

--

--

Mr. Davisdson said that the consequences of the two horses having the wrong saddles were wide-ranging particularly so when Assertive Princess went on to win race four. The Stipendiary Stewards submitted that the appropriate penalty was in the range of $400.00 to $600.00.

--

--

Mr Auret acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and again outlined how it had occurred. He noticed the saddle mix-up himself before Mr.Parkes mounted Royal Call in the parade ring.

--

--

Decision

--

--

The committee took into account all of the submissions put before it noting that Mr. Auret was very lucky that the mistake was identified and rectified when it was.

--

The consequences would have been wide-ranging affecting not only the betting public but Mr. Auret’s very good reputation as a young trainer.

--

To reflect the committee’s opinion of the seriousness of the breach Mr. Auret was fined the sum of $600.00.
