Decision: --

Mr Belsham you?ve admitted a breach of rule 871(1)(d) in race 2 in that with approximately 600 metres to race TRI NATIONS moved inwards when insufficiently clear causing crowding to THE BAGMAN (Mr Hazlett), LAST FRISCO (Ms Rathbone), COUP BISCUIT (Mr Ryan) and PERSONAL SUCCESS (Mr Moir).

--

--

Mr Belsham, as Mr Ching has said, you are an experienced horseman riding regularly at South Island jumps meetings. You have an excellent record with no breaches of the rules at all for the past 12 months. You have readily and openly admitted the breach.

--

--

We see the incident as being mid-range. You moved inwards, you say when you and Ms Rathbone were going for the same gap. If so, she clearly had beaten you to it and you continued to come across. The consequence was crowding and subsequent inconvenience to 4 horses and, in particular, to Mr Moir, who had to check out.

--

--

We believe a suspension is appropriate. From a starting point of 3 to 4 days to reflect the gravity of the breach, we believe the mitigating factors of an excellent record and admission of the breach warrant a suspension from riding at the end of racing today, up to and including Saturday 16 June. This is 2 South Island racing days. We remind you of your obligations under the Rules of Racing.
