Ms J Cameron admitted a breach of Rule 858(1)(a) in that she failed to weigh in after Race 3 as required by the Rules.
Ms J Cameron admitted a breach of Rule 858(1)(a) in that she failed to weigh in after Race 3 as required by the Rules. Ms Cameron indicated she did not wish to be present. We find the charge proved.
--Mr Davidson stated that Ms Cameron had finished 9th in a field of 14 and when questioned by the stewards as to why she had failed to weigh in, she said she forgot.
--This is Ms Cameron’s 2nd breach of this Rule in a period of 4 months, since she returned from riding in Australia where only the first 5 are required to weigh. We note Ms Cameron’s explanation but observe that the scales are immediately opposite the female jockeys’ room. There is simply no excuse for failing to weigh in.
We note that on the previous occasion the penalty was $175 and Mr Davidson has asked for a fine in the $250 to $350 range. We accept there has to be an increase from the previous penalty in the interests of deterrence. Ms Cameron is fortunate that her mount did not run a place, in which case the consequences of her actions would have been more serious. We impose a fine of $275 and inform her that a far more severe penalty is likely to be imposed should she breach this Rule again.
