Decision: --

Ms Parker you?ve admitted a breach of rule 871(1)(d) in race 5.

----------

RACE NO. 5 INFORMATION NO: 0332 RULE NO: 871(1)(d)

--

Appearing: Mr J Hunter, stipendiary steward Informant

--

Ms L Parker (with Ms L McNeilly) Defendant

--

Ms Parker you?ve admitted a breach of rule 871(1)(d) in race 5. Mr Hunter has demonstrated on the videos that you allowed your mount GLOBAL SAINT to shift ground inwards when not sufficiently clear causing interference to TROJAN BLUE with approximately 800 metres to run.

--

--

Mr Hunter has said that normally a suspension would be requested for a breach of this nature, but as the next South Island meetings are during Cup Week in Christchurch, the Committee might like to consider a fine. He emphasised, however, that the deterrent effect of a fine upon an apprentice, such as yourself, is lessened by the fact that it is simply taken out of your earnings when you finish your apprenticeship.

--

--

You have asked for a fine and Ms McNeilly, on your behalf, stated that she believed the incident was not serious.

--

--

We give you credit for the fact that you have had approximately 90 rides and this is the first time you have been in the Judicial Room, and also that you have readily admitted the breach. We accept the incident is towards the lower end of the scale. We believe a penalty containing an element of deterrence is necessary as a reminder to you of your obligations under the Rules of Racing. We suspend you from riding from the end of the meeting today up to an including the 6th of November. This is 1 riding day. We also impose a fine of $200.
