Otago RC 18 April 2013 – R 7
ID: JCA14972
Code:
Thoroughbred
Meet Title:
Otago RC - 18 April 2013
Meet Chair:
PKnowles
Meet Committee Member 1:
DSteel
Race Date:
2013/04/18
Race Number:
R7
Decision:
Miss Direen admitted the charge and the charge was found proved.
Penalty:
Ms Direen is suspended from the conclusion of racing at Wyndham on the 22nd of April up to the conclusion of racing at Riverton on the 2nd May (three South Island days).
Charge:
Following the running of race 7, the ZM F&M Maiden 1400m, Mr M Davidson lodged a careless riding charge against Ms T Direen alleging Ms Direen had allowed her mount I’m A Taart to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Perfection (J Bullard) who had to check passing the 200 metres.
Breach of Rule 638 (1) (d) reads: A rider shall not ride a horse in a manner which the Judicial Committee considers to be careless.
Facts:
Mr Davidson stated the Stewards had no further evidence to submit which had not already been heard at the previous protest into the incident.
Submissions for Decision:
Mr Anderton said Ms Direen had admitted the charge but would like the committee to take into account other mitigating factors. He said Mr Bullard was attempting to push out Mr Chong (Keep The Quest) and also Ms Williams (The Bubbly One) which was ahead of Mr Bullard rolled outwards about a half horse width. He did not believe Mr Bullard had a clear run in the straight at the point of the interference. He stated I’m A Taart was racing greenly at that point.
Ms Direen stated Mr Chong (Keep The Quest) had pushed Perfection (J Bullard) back into the pocket and had made the interference look worse for her.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr Davidson said Ms Direen had an excellent riding record and had been charged only once with careless riding since commencing her apprenticeship nearly three years ago. He said Ms Direen had been suspended for two days in March this year. He said the interference was at the medium to low end of the scale and was seeking a three day suspension.
Ms Direen stated she had confirmed riding commitments at both Riccarton and Wyndham on the 20th and 22nd of April.
Reasons for Penalty:
The committee took into account Ms Direen’s early admission of the breach of Rule, her very good record and also the mitigating factors raised by Mr Anderton. In setting a penalty the committee was mindful of a recent suspension of two days.
