Meet Title:
Otago RC - 1 December 2019

Meet Chair:
PKnowles

Meet Committee Member 1:
GHall

Race Date:
2019/12/01

Race Number:
R1

Decision:

Mr Johnson admitted the charge and it is found proved.

Penalty:

Mr Johnson is suspended from the conclusion of racing on the 8th December, up to and including the 18th December (7 days).

Facts:

Stewards charged Mr C Johnson (DANNY GREEN) with a breach of careless riding –r 638 (1) (d) - in that he caused interference to several runners inside the final 200m. Mr Oatham outlined the incident with the use of the video replays. He stated DANNY GREEN was racing one-off the running rail when leading in the home straight. He said Mr Johnson allowed his horse to drift outwards, crossing in front of SHE IS GOLD, before coming into contact with RUMOUR HAS IT (K Asano). He said Mr Kwo (SHE IS GOLD) had to restrain his mount off the heels of DANNY GREEN. It was only after contact was made with RUMOUR HAS IT that Mr Johnson corrected his mount.

Mr Johnson stated he realised his horse was drifting out and thought he was clear of SHE IS GOLD. He said it was the first time he had ridden the horse. It raced greenly and was trying to run outwards for most of the race.

Submissions for Penalty:

Mr Davidson said Mr Johnson had had 837 rides in the past 12 months. He had three suspensions, the first almost a year ago and the last one at Wingatui on September 7th. He said the interference was at the low-mid range and sought a suspension of seven days. Mr Johnson sought a deferment of any suspension for seven days.

Reasons for Penalty:

While Mr Johnson admitted the charge it is his fourth careless riding charge inside 12 months. The interference involved two runners at the low to mid-range and we don’t see any need to increase or give any credit when setting a penalty. Mr Johnson sought a deferment for seven days and that request was granted.
