Decision: --
The information alleges that Miss L Cropp, the rider of SHARP DEAL in Race 8 allowed her mount to shift inwards when not clear of GINGERSNAP in the home straight.
| -- DECISION AND REASONS: ----The information alleges that Miss L Cropp, the rider of SHARP DEAL in Race 8 allowed her mount to shift inwards when not clear of GINGERSNAP in the home straight. ----Prior to commencing the hearing, the Chairman asked for an alteration to the information, namely that the informant's name be entered. This was done on all copies and acknowledged by those present. ----Rule 871(1)(d) was read and Miss Cropp acknowledged she undertood same. --Miss Cropp did not admit the breach. ----Mr M Hills, the rider of GINGERSNAP told those present he had to check his mount in the home straight when Miss Cropp's mount came over in front of him. ----In answer to a question from Mr Hawea as to how far in front of him was Miss Cropp when her mount came across he said approximately one length. ----Miss Cropp had no questions of Mr Hills. ----Mr Goodwin then showed head-on and side-on films of the alleged incident. These clearly showed Miss Cropp's mount moving in sharply when not the required distance clear. ----Miss Cropp had no questions of Mr Goodwin but gave her own interpretation of the films. ----It was her view that her mount had ducked because it was racing greenly and had blinkers on for the first time, and she felt the foregoing factors had caused the problem. ----All parties acknowledged that they had nothing further to add and left the room. ----The committee were of the view that the horse had ducked in sharply, but it was under a ride with the stick by Miss Cropp at the time she continued to ride with the whip until the alleged interference had occurred, they therefore found the breach proven. ----Mr Hawea and Miss Cropp then made submissions as to the penalty. ----When arriving at a penalty the committee took into account Miss Cropp's excellent record (approximately 500 rides since returning to riding) without a charge. However, this was out weighed by the fact she continued to ride with the whip when her horse was on an inward movement and she had not admitted the breach. A fine of $750.00 was felt to be appropriate. ------ -- --
