Following the running of Race 7, the Garry Thompson / Fred Shaw NZ Trotting Championship, an information was laid by Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr N. R. Escott against Mr D. T. McRae, Open Horseman, alleging a breach of Rule 847(1) and the “Safety Gear” Regulation, in that he failed to wear a safety vest.

Following the running of Race 7, the Garry Thompson / Fred Shaw NZ Trotting Championship, an information was laid by Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr N. R. Escott against Mr D. T. McRae, Open Horseman, alleging a breach of Rule 847(1) and the “Safety Gear” Regulation, in that he failed to wear a safety vest.

Mr McRae had indicated on the information that he admitted this breach
--of the rule and that he did not wish to attend the hearing.
----
The rule provides that no horseman shall be checked out unless he wears
--safety gear which complies with the requirements of the “Safety Gear” Regulation made by the Executive.

PENALTY:

Mr Escott advised that Mr McRae had no previous convictions, and as this was a $100,000-00 Group 1 race recommended a fine of $500-00.

After considering the matter of penalty we were satisfied that this was a Group 1 for $100,000-00, and that we were required to take these matters into account in accordance with Rule 1114(2). On returning to the Enquiry Room we advised that Mr McRae would be fined the sum of $500-00.
