Following the running of Race 4, the Chaucer Press Mobile Pace, an Information Instigating a Protest against the 5th placing of "Alessia" (9) was laid by Stipendiary Steward Mr N Ydgren alleging a breach of Rule 869(7B).

Following the running of Race 4, the Chaucer Press Mobile Pace, an Information Instigating a Protest against the 5th placing of "Alessia" (9) was laid by Stipendiary Steward Mr N Ydgren alleging a breach of Rule 869(7B). The information reads as follows.
------"This is a protest against horse number (9) placed 5th by the judge on the grounds of 869(7B) in that Alessia's cart raced inside track pylons in excess of 30 metres rounding the final bend."
--Rule 869(7B) reads as follows.
--"Where any horse or its sulky wheel moves inside the track marker line for more than 30 metres in the last 600 metres of a race the horse shall be disqualified from that race except where it is established that the breach was caused by interference by another horse or horseman."
----The owner and trainer of "Alessia". Mr G. V. Maginness advised that he understood the relevant rule and the charge. Mr B.Williams used video coverage to show that "Alessia" had struck and raced inside four track markers when rounding the final bend and that this action was not caused by the actions of any other horse. The distance between the markers is approximately 9.5 metres. Mr Maginness told the committee that the driver of "Alessia" Mr C. R. Thornley indicated to him that the horse was being pushed down on to the markers on the turn.
--DECISION AND REASONS:
--After viewing the video and considering the evidence the committee decided that "Alessia" did race inside at least four markers on the home turn and that no other horse or horseman had contributed to this. Therefore the protest was upheld and "Alessia" disqualified from its fifth placing.
--The amended placings are as follows
--1st - (3) Affairs of State
--2nd - (1) Native Franco
--3rd - (11) Crystal Union
--4th - (8) Footsie
--5th - (7) Felicity Wishes
--6th - (12) Atom Kate
