Following the running of Race 3, the Hubbers Furnishings Ltd – NZ Junior Drivers Championship (Heat 1), an information was laid by Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr N. R. Escott against Mr T. M. Williams, the driver of “Lord Forbes” (15), alleging a breach of Rule 869(4).

Following the running of Race 3, the Hubbers Furnishings Ltd – NZ Junior Drivers Championship (Heat 1), an information was laid by Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr N. R. Escott against Mr T. M. Williams, the driver of “Lord Forbes” (15), alleging a breach of Rule 869(4). The charge was that Mr Williams drove in a manner which was likely to cause interference when attempting to move “Washingtonintime” (R. Todd) down the track after about 200 metres, causing that horse to break.

Mr Williams had indicated on the information that he admitted this breach of the Rules and he confirmed this at the hearing. It was also agreed that the evidence heard at the protest hearing would form the basis for this hearing.

In relation to penalty Mr Escott advised that Mr Williams was a Junior Driver who had only been driving this season. This was the first charge that Mr Williams had faced, and a fine of $200-00 was recommended.

Taking into account Mr Williams’ clear record and his guilty plea I was satisfied that the fine recommended was appropriate and Mr Williams was fined the sum of $200-00.
