Following the running of Race 1, Fitzgerald Arms Tavern Handicap Trot, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr N G McIntyre, against TOZZIE (P G O?Reilly), placed 3rd by the judge, on the grounds of interference to HAYDEN JOHN (A Edmonds), placed 10th by the judge, after approximately 200 metres.

DECISION AND REASONS:
--Following the running of Race 1, Fitzgerald Arms Tavern Handicap Trot, an information instigating a protest was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr N G McIntyre, against TOZZIE (P G O?Reilly), placed 3rd by the judge, on the grounds of interference to HAYDEN JOHN (A Edmonds), placed 10th by the judge, after approximately 200 metres.
----Mr P G O?Reilly, the trainer/driver of TOZZIE, was present at the hearing of the information and he indicated that he was representing the connections of that horse.
----Mr McIntyre alleged that shortly after the start, after trotting away, TOZZIE broke. Immediately on its inside was HAYDEN JOHN (A Edmonds). Miss Edmonds confirmed that TOZZIE broke and caused interference to HAYDEN JOHN which also broke.
----Mr B D Williams, Assistant Stipendiary Steward, showed video replays of the early stages of the race. He pointed out that TOZZIE had drawn 3 and HAYDEN JOHN had drawn 1 at the 2600 metre standing start. He pointed out that, after approximately 75 metres, TOZZIE broke and, as a result, HAYDEN JOHN also broke. TOZZIE shifted inwards when it broke and took the line of HAYDEN JOHN, despite Mr O?Reilly's efforts to keep it straight. HAYDEN JOHN broke and continued in a gallop for 600-800 metres, losing all chance in the race
----Mr O?Reilly conceded that interference had taken place and he did not contest the relegation of TOZZIE.
----The Committee was satisfied that TOZZIE had interfered with the progress or chance of HAYDEN JOHN, that horse being checked and losing all chance in the race just after the start. The protest was, therefore, upheld. Consequently, TOZZIE was relegated to 10th placing and the amended placings for the race are as follows:

--3rd 4 Annsmenan
--4th 2 Bright Diedre
