Following the running of Race 8, a protest was lodged by the Stipendiary Stewards against horse number 3, Courageous Amrik (B Weaver), placed 5th by the Judge, on the grounds of breaking from its gait at the start of the race, and that it was in breach of Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horse Regulations.

--

--

The placings were: 1st - 7, 2nd - 4, 3rd - 8, 4th - 6, 5th - 3, 6th - 17.

--

--

The purpose of the enquiry was to establish if the breach occurred and, if so, to consider the question of disqualification or relegation.

--

--

Trainer/driver, Mr Weaver, indicated to the stewards that he was representing the connections of the horse, and he endorsed the Information that he did not contest the protest.

--

--

Explaining the circumstances, stipendiary steward Mr Ydgren referred to the video of the race. He pointed out Courageous Amrik (B Weaver) at the start and showed that it paced off, but then went out of its gait and continued in a break down the straight and around the first bend, well in excess of 150metres. It was therefore in breach of the Rule and the Breaking Horse Regulations in that it failed to promptly regain its gait. Mr Ydgren said that this was conceded by Mr Weaver and, accordingly, he sought disqualification of the horse.

--
