--The placings in the race were:-
1st No 4 – NEVILLE VAUGHAN
2nd No 8 – TOZZIES SISTER
3rd No 11 – BIDDY BID
4th No 10 – NIGHT OF MY LIFE
5 No 1 – HONEY BEATT
6th No 3 – GEORGINA CASTLETON
Rule 870 (3) states:-
Any horse which breaks from its gait shall promptly regain its proper gait.
The Breaking Horses Regulations state:-
Any horse which breaks from its gait within the final 200 metres of any race and continues on in the break for a distance of 50 metres or greater shall be deemed to be in breach of rule 870(3) in that it has failed to promptly regain its proper gait.
Stipendiary Steward Mr Renault showed the film of the final stages of the race and pointed out BIDDY BID breaking from its gait just inside the 100m mark and continuing on in a break to and past the finish line. He said the stewards sought the disqualification of BIDDY BID as it had broke for more than 50m inside the final 100m of the race and had not regained its gait by the finishing line.
--Mr Lilley agreed with the evidence presented by the stewards and did not dispute the recommendation to disqualify BIDDY BID.
--
Decision
The Committee agree that BIDDY BID did break for more than 50m inside the final 100m of the race and had not regained its gait by the finish line. We therefore uphold the protest and agree with the recommendation that BIDDY BID be disqualified from the race. The amended placings now read:-
-- 1st No 4 – NEVILLE VAUGHAN
2nd No 8 – TOZZIES SISTER
3rd No 10 – NIGHT OF MY LIFE
